Why are the products made without fillers?
• Fillers can interfere with absorption simply because of the volume of product that competes with vitamins and minerals for absorption.
• Fillers can increase shipping costs.
• Fillers give the customer a false sense of effectiveness (more is better).
Why are the products made without sugars?
• Sugars and high carbohydrate diets can lead to obesity and glucose intolerance. Glucose intolerance means that the horse’s body does not react properly when insulin is released by the pancreas (insulin resistant). High levels of insulin can affect bones and cartilage and increase the risk of laminitis.
• Diseases and problems caused by too much sugar and carbohydrates: Metabolic syndrome, Cushing’s, Laminitis, OCD (osteochondritis dissecans) and Ulcers
• Not necessary for palatability. Since the products don’t contain fillers, serving size is small and not noticed by most horses when added to their feed. Some examples of sugar are: molasses, dextrose, lactose and maltodextrin.
• When horses are fed sugar cubes, sweet feed, sugar snacks, and/or high carbohydrate meals, their body reacts the same way our body reacts when we eat sugar or high carbohydrate meals. Quick energy (blood sugar spike) followed by lethargy and possible mood problems.
